The Grave in My Soul

about the author

Lisa A. DeRoché

The Grave in My Soul is an intimate portrait of the author’s own experiences growing up as a young girl on Long Island, NY who received limited mentoring and guidance on sexuality, relationships and career challenges.

She describes her challenges with the decisions to have an abortion and other experiences. She wrote this book based on daily submissions to her diary as a teenager through adulthood. It is a vulnerable exposure to coming to terms with decisions she made in life and she shares them with the hopes it would mentor others.

She hoped that one day it would become a first-hand guide for anyone who needs support getting over and through life’s roller coaster journey with style, grace and your hands in the air! It is a lively discussion of stories about consequences, regrets, lessons, and blessings that can happen in life. More importantly, the book is about forgiveness, of yourself and others, getting past guilt and being the best person that you can be in this life that you only live once. Lisa spent the past 20 years in human resources handling recruiting, benefits, employee relations, training, and culture initiatives.

She has implemented human resources initiatives such as performance management tools, and management development programs, to drive organizational effectiveness in corporate entities. She is consistently called upon to lead, facilitate, promote, champion and support organizational change in addition to acting as project lead for talent management related business initiatives such as policy and procedure updates, learning and development programs and engagement events.Lisa has been married for 25 years to her first love and developed a blended family of 5 children with her husband plus two grandchildren and hopefully more on the way. Lisa has a BA in Sociology from SUNY Old Westbury, an MBA from Dowling College and is in her last year at Capella University as a PhD candidate in their Business Management – Human Resources program. Lisa’s passion is to mentor and develop people regardless of what mistakes they have made. The book discusses many mistakes that she made. It also offers real-time stories of reflection on her life experiences both positive and negative. The hope is that her story will help you through life’s challenges and allow you the freedom to not be hard on yourself as you go through them but ultimately and more importantly, to learn from them and continue on the journey of happiness. Leave the bad times in the grave and the good times in your soul.
